Cut your electric bill in half and more importantly taking a chunk out of your carbon footprint? Every watt you needlessly consume burns up a lump of coal and emits more CO2 into our atmosphere. Electricity is a significant part of most people’s footprint, typically 30-35%.
The trouble is with a big portion of the CO2 being emitted is that it’s being emitted needlessly and with a little everyday attention can be avoided.
This stuff isn’t rocket science, but it is not going to get accomplished by turning off a light now and then. Instead it requires a little focus and perseverance over a few months and you will enjoy year after year of dividends.
If you make a game out of it, the journey is even more rewarding.
A few of our readers shared with us their monthly electric consumption over the past eight years. This gave Green Blizzard a pre and post perspective on their passion to save electricity.
Going back to 2004, the families involved were blissfully consuming between 18,000 to 28,000 kilowatts annually for a family of four, in several fairly modest older homes, not the typical new larger McMansions!
Then in 2006 as several of the residents caught the “green bug” to conserve and with a few purchases of more efficient bulbs, power strips, mixed with a little thought and a change in household habits, the consumption dramatically dropped.
You Too Can Slice Your Electric Bill In Half In Six Months
Between 2007 and 2009, two of the houses realized a year-over-year sequential drop of 20%, 30%, and then 50%. One house just even went solar earlier this year and now has electric bills on average around $50/month.
What this trend showed us was that with a little insight and focus, and very little cash outlay, families can slice away at their electric consumption in a really meaningful way and use those savings to either invest in even more energy savings products or have a little carbon-free family fun.
The first step is to figure out your electrical consumption for the past few years and see how you can hack-away at lowering your electric bills – you’ll be surprised. So go ahead, slice your electric bill in half in six months and in the meantime, tell your friends about Green Blizzard .
